EV charger installation in Harrogate and North Yorkshire

Tethered and untethered home chargers installed, protected and set up properly — Ohme, Sync Energy and other makes, wired on their own circuit with the load checked first.

The install matters more than the brand

Most home chargers are decent units. What separates a good install from a bad one is whether the supply was assessed, the protective device is right, the cable route was thought about, and whether anyone bothered to set the thing up before driving off.

  • Tethered — cable attached, grab and plug in. Tidier day to day.
  • Untethered — socket only, use your own cable. Neater on the wall and more flexible if you change car.
  • Load assessed first so the charger doesn’t trip you out when the oven and shower are on
  • Dedicated circuit from the board with the correct protection, not spurred off something convenient
  • App and tariff set up before we leave, so off-peak charging actually works

How the install runs

Four stages, usually one day

01

Check before we quote

Main fuse rating, existing load, where the board is and how far the cable has to run. This is what decides whether a charger is straightforward or needs load management.

02

Cable route agreed

We walk the route with you before drilling anything — through the wall, round the soffit, clipped or in conduit. You see where it goes before it goes there.

03

Install and protect

Dedicated circuit from the board with the correct protective device, unit fixed square and sealed at the wall penetration.

04

Set up and hand over

Connected to your wi-fi, paired to the app, tariff scheduling explained and a test charge run before we leave.

Worth knowing

Two things that catch people out

Your main fuse. Plenty of older Harrogate properties still have a 60A or 80A supply fuse. A 7kW charger draws around 32A on top of everything else, so the supply has to be assessed — and sometimes load management or a fuse upgrade is the answer rather than a smaller charger.

Where the board is. If the consumer unit is at the front of the house and the parking is at the back, the cable run is the job. We’ll price the route honestly rather than quoting a headline figure and adding it on later.

Garage power & lighting

Fantastic work, done quickly and with minimal disruption. Arrived on time, cracked straight on and even adapted the scope to ensure more safety without suddenly changing the quote. Had electrical plugs and light installed in attached garage and the whole thing was done in under 3 hours. Very highly rated, incredibly pleased.
