Questions

Before you get in touch

How much does a new consumer unit cost?

It depends on the number of circuits, whether the existing earthing and bonding is up to standard, and what we find once the old board is off the wall. We quote a fixed price before we start, and if something behind the board changes the picture you get a phone call, not a surprise on the invoice.

Do I need to upgrade my fuse board?

Not automatically. If you have an old rewireable fuse box, no RCD protection, or a board showing signs of heat damage, it’s worth doing. Modern boards add RCBO protection per circuit and surge protection, so one fault doesn’t take out the whole house.

How long does a full rewire take?

A typical three-bed house is usually one to two weeks depending on access, whether floors are up and how much making good is involved. We plan it around you, and we can do it room by room if other trades are working in the property.

Can you install an EV charger at my house?

Yes. We install tethered and untethered chargers, run the supply from the board, fit the protective devices and set the unit up on its app. We’ll check your main fuse and existing load first so the charger doesn’t trip you out every time the oven’s on.

What is an EICR and do I need one?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is an inspection and test of the fixed wiring, with any issues coded by severity. Landlords need one every five years or at change of tenancy. Homeowners often get one when buying, selling, or if the wiring is of unknown age.

Do you do small jobs, or only big ones?

Both. Extra sockets, a light that’s stopped working, an outdoor socket, a garage supply — small jobs are welcome and often get done same week.

Can you find a fault when nobody else could?

Fault finding is a big part of what we do. Intermittent trips, circuits that only fail in the rain, borrowed neutrals from old wiring — it takes methodical testing rather than guesswork, and we’ll tell you what we find before we start replacing anything.

Will you make a mess?

There’s dust in any chasing or board work, but floors get covered, holes get made good and the place gets cleaned down before we leave. It comes up in our reviews more than the electrics do.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We’ll talk it through on the phone, come and look if it needs looking at, and give you a written price with no obligation.

Which areas do you cover?

Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Wetherby, Boroughbridge, Pateley Bridge and the villages around them, plus out towards Otley, Ilkley, Leeds and York. If you’re not sure, ring and ask.
